Activities The SCV Senior Center is located at 22900 Market St., Newhall. For a detailed monthly calendar, call the center at 661-259-9444. All the following activities will occur at the SCV Senior Center, 1 p.m., in rooms A1-A2 unless otherwise indicated. Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m., blood-pressure checks held, Activity Room 6. Every other Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon, hearing screenings held, Supportive Services modular.
Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the SCV Senior Center offers lunch prepared by Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Joanna Vallelunga. There is a suggested donation of $3.50 for Center-registered seniors aged 60 and older, and $5 for unregistered seniors and non-seniors. The monthly menu is viewable at www.scv-seniorcenter.org. Additionally, home-delivered meals are available to homebound seniors in the SCV, for a suggested donation of $3.50 per meal. Free spine education program Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s free Spine Education Program offers valuable information on how you can take better care of your spine, including lifestyle changes that may help with pain management and prevent future injuries. Functional Fitness At 8:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, we’re movin’ and groovin’, steppin’ and sweatin’ to the beat with ACE Certified Exercise Specialist Linda Bennett. We’re the new and improved “middle age” 50-plus active adults. The program encompasses functional fitness — moves are designed to simulate ADLs (activities of daily living), and sports moves like golf, tennis, and skiing. We do cardiovascular training, muscle and bone building, core stabilization and spatial awareness for balance — all within one hour. If you’re not quite ready for the fast and furious fitness, at 9:45 a.m. there is a great 30-minute chair class that will suit you.
