A girl was struck by a hit-and-run driver at the intersection of Decoro Drive and Seco Canyon Road after nightfall Thursday, a spokesman for the local sheriff’s station said.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, a girl believed to be 7 or 8 years old was with other children at the intersection when she was struck by a car, said Lt. Bill Weiss of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“I heard it was minor injuries,” he said. The child, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital.

The victim was one of a group of children apparently crossing Seco at Decoro near Santa Clarita Elementary School at the time of the collision.

The collision happened in front of other children, who gave a description of the car and its driver to deputies.
Deputies were looking for a gray or silver-colored Chrysler 300 with damage on its right front passenger bumper. It was believed to be driven by a white male with a beard.

The suspect driver is described as between 30 and 40 years old.

The car was last seen traveling south on Seco to Bouquet Canyon Road, deputies confirmed.

The car was traveling in that direction when the girl was hit, witnesses said.
