Six people were injured, at least one critically, in a two-car crash in Canyon Country on Thursday, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s officials said.

One of the drivers underwent surgery and was on a ventilator late Thursday afternoon, a spokesman said.

Both drivers and multiple passengers were severely to critically injured, sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

The crash occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. in the area of Scherzinger Lane and Sierra Highway.

The cars — a gray-colored Nissan Altima and a black Honda Accord — sustained front-end damage.
Air bags for each car had been deployed.

“The drivers of both vehicles, along with multiple passengers, were transported to local area hospitals with severe to critical injuries,” said Detective Travis Kelly.

“At this point, it appears one person was making an illegal turn,” he said. “A person ended up being broadsided.” Rain was not believed to be a factor in the incident, officials said.

The crash remained under investigation Thursday. Anyone witnessing the collision was asked to contact Detective Kelly at (661) 255-1121.
