ANTELOPE VALLEY--SANTA CLARITA VALLEY--SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA

WED NOV 28 2012...

 

UNSETTLED WEATHER EXPECTED TODAY INTO THURSDAY FOR SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA...A RATHER STRONG PACIFIC COLD FRONT IS FORECAST TO AFFECT SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA TODAY AND TONIGHT WITH A PERIOD OF LIGHT TO MODERATERAIN AND GUSTY WINDS.

RESIDUAL LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND ONSHORE FLOWWILL KEEP PLENTY OF SHOWERS OVER THE AREA THROUGH THURSDAY.THE FRONT WILL MOVE INTO SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIESTHIS MORNING WITH RAIN AND GUSTY SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WINDS. THERAIN IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD INTO VENTURA COUNTY EARLY THISAFTERNOON AND INTO LOS ANGELES COUNTY BY LATE AFTERNOON OR EARLYEVENING.

LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN CAN BE EXPECTED WITH THIS WEATHERSYSTEM...EXCEPT FOR ISOLATED HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES ESPECIALLY ONSOUTH FACING SLOPES OVER SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARACOUNTIES.

THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF TO SCATTERED SHOWERSLATE TONIGHT WITH ADDITIONAL SHOWERS ON THURSDAYSNOW LEVELS DURING THE PERIOD WILL REMAIN VERY HIGH...GENERALLYABOVE 7500 FEET...WITH ANY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS CONFINED TO THEHIGHEST PEAKS.

PRELIMINARY RAINFALL ESTIMATES FROM TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY AREFOR 0.33 TO 1.00 INCHES OVER SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARACOUNTIES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS BETWEEN 1.00 AND 2.50INCHES ACROSS SOUTH-FACING SLOPES AND NORTHWESTERN SAN LUIS OBISPOCOUNTY. FOR VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES...EXPECTED RAINFALLTOTALS THROUGH THURSDAY ARE BETWEEN 0.10 AND 0.33 INCHES...WITHLOCAL AMOUNTS AROUND 0.75 INCHES ACROSS SOUTH FACING SLOPES.

SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WINDS ARE FORECAST TO INCREASE OVER SAN LUISOBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES THIS MORNING...AND WILL CONTINUETHROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 35 AND 40 MPH AREEXPECTED ACROSS THE CENTRAL COAST...SANTA YNEZ VALLEY AND THEINTERIOR VALLEYS OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY. ACROSS THE MOUNTAINSOF SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES...WIND GUSTS UP TO50 MPH ARE EXPECTED.

AS A RESULT...A WIND ADVISORY HAS BEENISSUED FOR THESE AREAS THROUGH THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY.THE RAINFALL EXPECTED FROM TODAY INTO THURSDAY MAY PRODUCE PONDINGOF WATER IN LOW-LYING AND POORLY DRAINED AREAS.

ALSO... MOTORISTSSHOULD BE ALERT FOR SLICK ROADWAYS DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF OILAND RAINFALL. THE GUSTY WINDS WILL COMPOUND TRAVEL PROBLEMS OVERSAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES AS WELL...ESPECIALLYFOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
