The two fires that started within five days of each other at the Sierra Canyon Apartments in Canyon Country appear to be unrelated incidents, an investigator said today.

Detective Tania Owen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arson and explosives unit, who is in charge of the second fire investigation, said the probe has uncovered no evidence suggesting the two fires have anything in common apart from their location.

“These are two totally different investigations at this time,” Owen said.

It is standard procedure for the department to investigate arson in fires that cause damage greater than $7,500.

The first fire, which caused approximately $70,000 in damage on Nov. 16, is still under investigation for possible arson.

A damage amount for the second fire, which was Wednesday, was not available today.
