Vexation Clothing of Valencia is all ready for Small Business Saturday.

“We had a good holiday season last year,” said Farah Noor, store manager. “We hope to get those return clients as well as bring in new people.”

In its third annual Small Business Saturday campaign, American Express is urging shoppers to support businesses like Vexation Clothing.

Last year, Small Business Saturday gave a boost to Main Street businesses all across the country, with more than 100 million people shopping at independently owned small businesses, said Karen G. Mills, administrator of the Small Business Administration in a statement released on Wednesday.

Mills believes people can do an even better job supporting small shops this year, and she urged shoppers to visit small businesses in the community.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the fabric of our communities,” Mills said. “Over the last two decades, small and new businesses have been responsible for creating two out of every three net new jobs in the U.S., and today over half of all working Americans own or work for a small business.”

Opened a little less than one year ago, the clothing retailer Vexation Clothing first opened as a warehouse to hold inventory for its online sales.

But Noor changed that model for the two founders who developed the self-styled line of clothing themselves.

“I felt the best way to showcase our brand is to show people who we are,” she said. “The store gives people a way to see what we have and how truly good quality it is.”

And the designer-retailers are very proud to say everything they produce is made in Los Angeles — from the purchase of the fabric to the manufacturing, Noor said.

The Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is selected each year to boost small, independently owned businesses — and American Express is asking consumers to support those shops on Saturday.

“I hope shoppers don’t forget the small, independent stores,” Noor said. “Supporting small businesses helps the local economy grow.”
