Run and fun Saturday

With St. Patrick's Day falling on a Monday, this Saturday, March 15, shapes up as your best local opportunity to celebrate the holiday with your little leprechauns - and the Knights of Columbus have you covered morning and night.

First, the kids can cheer you on as you run the Knights of Columbus' 28th annual Five Kilometer Race (3.1 miles). The race starts at 9 a.m. in the old oil town of Mentryville at the west end of Pico Canyon Road in Newhall. It will be run entirely on trails in park property.

Race entry forms are available in the Runners Lane shoe store on Bouquet Canyon Road (at Soledad junction) in Santa Clarita.

Second, that evening, the Knights of Columbus will host host their 32 annual St. Patrick's Day celebration at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hall on Lyons Avenue. Irish Fiddlers will start the evening's entertainment at 6 p.m. World step dancers and the College of the Canyons Emeritus Choir will be performing Irish music. In addition, Celtic dancers from the Los Angeles Celtic Arts Center will perform and offer all guests an opportunity to join in and learn some traditional Irish group dances. A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served, accompanied by Irish soda bread. Tickets are $25 or $40 for
