The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is asking local residents to make a donation of money or supermarket gift cards with the goal of providing each member of client families with $5 for the holiday season.

“These grocery cards will be distributed to low-income families during the holiday season so that they can purchase the extra food items needed to make their traditional holiday meals,” Food Pantry officials said in a news release.

The Food Pantry, whose vision is “No child in the Santa Clarita Valley should go to bed hungry,” serves a clientele made up of 43 percent children and 11 percent seniors, organizers said.

Donations of money or gift cards may be sent to Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry, 24133 Railroad Avenue, Newhall, CA 91321. Donations may also be made online through PayPal at www.scvfoodpantry.org.

Pantry officials also urge local residents to support two holiday charitable programs this season: the SCV Sheriff’s Toy Drive and the Home Instead “Be a Santa to a Senior” program.

Toys and gift card donations for the annual toy drive can be made at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia.

Residents may “adopt” a senior citizen by calling (661) 254-8701.
