Looking back and looking ahead.

That's Al Ferdman's goal for tonight's meeting of the Canyon Country Advisory Committee.

The committee chair said there's a full agenda for the first meeting of 2009, including the Santa Clarita's Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program and the One Valley One Vision plan under development by the city and Los Angeles County.

Ferdman said 2008 saw a number of successes for the Canyon Country community. Those include the completion of Todd Longshore Park off Whites Canyon Road and faster turnaround time on cleanup of graffiti.

Set to speak tonight is Paul Brotzman, the city's director of community development, focusing on One Valley, One Vision plan.

City staff members will also be on hand to talk about state Senate Bill 2 and how it affects homeless shelter sites.

The committee will accept nominations for committee officers. Elections are set for February.

All in all, Ferdman said 2008 was a good year, and he's looking forward to 2009.

"I think the city is paying more attention to us, and that's a good thing," he said.

The Advisory Committee meets from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the banquet room at the Santa Clarita Activity Center, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
