The Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center has dedicated a new preschool that’s aimed at offering preschool education plus therapy for children with behavioral or social-emotional issues.

“Bright Beginnings reflects our commitment to prevention and early intervention in the life of a child and our belief that the integration of education and mental health services is extremely important to those children with mental health issues and are at risk of school failure,” said Darrell Paulk, CEO of the Child & Family Center.

“The program is the direct result of a community need, community participation and community support,” he said.

The program was developed in collaboration with the center, local school districts, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, College of the Canyons, Family Focus Resource Center and local preschools.

Students attend five days a week for half-day sessions, learning curricula approved by the state as well as undergoing therapy. In addition, families participate in weekly parenting classes and undergo family therapy sessions.

Ten positions will be open for the preschool.
