Hart’s big men Parker Dominguez and Joe Inemer delivered down low in the second half, and most importantly, in the fourth quarter, to help propel the Indians (13-7, 2-1).
“We just stayed aggressive on offense,” said Hart head coach Tom Kelly of the fourth quarter. “Parker (Dominguez), Joe (Inemer) and Pat (Abbott) all got going to the basket and that opened it up.”
It was Dominguez’s four quick points in the fourth quarter that sparked an 8-0 run opening the final frame to give Hart a 49-34 lead just two minutes into the quarter.
The run ended when Inemer scored on an offensive rebound off a Dominguez free-throw to make it 51-34 with 5:37 left, all but sealing the victory.
Dominguez scored 17 points to lead Hart.
“Give them credit because they shot the ball very well, but we let them get easy shots,” said Canyon head coach Chad Phillips.
On the defensive end, it was Hart again pushing the tempo and holding the Cowboys (6-13, 0-3) to 12 fourth quarter points, including just eight until the final minute.
“We didn’t want to give (Canyon swingman Michael) Edwards any easy looks,” Kelly said. “And that led to us finding the passing lanes and slowing them down.”
