A three-car crash in Canyon Country killed one and seriously injured two others early this morning, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
CHP officer Ed Jacobs said the accident occurred at 2:06 a.m. on Vasquez Canyon Road and Burton Way when a Lincoln-model car traveling westbound on Vasquez Canyon Road collided head-on with a Mazda-model vehicle travelling eastbound.
Two people, 25-year-old Santa Clarita resident Jonathan Lavoie and 29-year-old Saugus resident Anthony Druliner, were ejected from the Lincoln.
The crash resulted in the death of 49-year-old Palmdale resident Steven Oster, according to CHP.
After the two cars collided, the original westbound vehicle struck another vehicle. The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries from the incident, according to CHP.
Lavoie and Druliner were transported to Henry Mayo Memorial Hospital for treatment. Neither was wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred, according to CHP.
Alcohol or drug impairment is suspected to be a factor in the collision. CHP officer Tatiana Sauquillo said Druliner will be arrested in connection with the incident once he is well enough to leave the hospital.
Vasquez Canyon Road was closed in the area after the accident, according to Lt. Mark Hershey with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The road reopened at 1:55 p.m, Sauquillo said.
