Letter: A lumpy carpet

I was doing some pondering after hearing of the latest scandal coming out of Washington: the disgraceful behavior of the head of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Some news sources are reporting that this scandal was known in late October but it only came to light after the election.

Now we are going to have hearings on this one as well as Operation Fast and Furious, the Benghazi attack, maybe the unanswered attack on our intelligence drone in international waters off Iran and now the dalliance of Gen. David Petraeus.

Washington is famous for “hearings.” The trouble is nothing is heard; they are always a joke no matter who is in power.

The Petraeus affair is especially troubling since both parties are West Point graduates, which disgraces the uniform and violates the code of conduct for an officer.

Because you wear civilian clothes does not mean you get a mulligan when it comes to honor.

When a soldier loses a hand in combat, he or she doesn’t get a “do-over”; the wounded soldier gets patched up and learns to tie his shoes with one hand. There are no hearings to somehow soften reality.

Hearings are held to soften the reality of what really happened and rarely does anything concrete come out of them — it’s just breeze on Capitol Hill.

After the “hearings,” the next step is the guy with the broom sweeps it all under the rug, which seems to be getting lumpier by the day.

Pretty soon the Oval Office carpet will be suitable only for off-roading because of the size and amount of the lumps.
