Shopaholics can now protect the environment while sporting high fashion and preserving a piece of history.
Local business owner Linda Cox offers a diverse line of "go green" products through her Internet-based business, "Green with Envy."

All her products are made from recycled materials and promote environmental awareness.

Her hottest products are tote bags made from L.A. Times newspapers headlining Barack Obama's Nov. 5 presidential election victory.

"They have been incredibly popular," she said. "After the inauguration I'll be carrying L.A. Times and the Washington Post tote bags." The next batch will feature totes make from newspapers reporting the inauguration.

Cox, who founded "Green with Envy" almost three years ago, said her tote bags will be featured on a TV show in England.

"They're going to be running the inauguration live that day and they want to show some related fashions," she said. "People are excited to be patriotic and to be wearing an eco-friendly product."

"I have recycled purses made out of billboard signs, candy wrappers, New York subway maps, tires ... " she said.

"I have computer bags made out of boat sails, chairs made out of street signs and bowls and coasters made from records."

Cox teaches introduction to business and marketing classes at West Ranch High School. She started her business after participating in a project at Hart High School.

Cox operates her business in a Newhall warehouse and hopes to continue growing and helping protect the environment, she said.

"Recycled products have a story to tell ... unlike their new counterparts, they have been on a journey," she said. "This is a new urban trend. Most recycled products and gifts are rarely alike, so you are fashioning eco-urban art. If you're going to give a gift, why not give an eco-friendly gift, because you are helping the environment by using something that's recycled." Along with the patriotic tote bags, Cox offers a vast array of purses, bags, jewelry, accessories, home decor, art and gifts made from recycled products at www.greenwithenvygifts.com.
