The Golden Valley boys and girls soccer programs have undergone unexpected changes at the head coaching positions just weeks before the start of the 2012-13 season, the school announced Wednesday.

Boys head coach Fausto Arana handed in his resignation to the school, Golden Valley administer of athletics Carolyn Hoffman confirmed in a statement.

Former girls coach Charles Martinez will be moving over to the boys program, where he will take over as head coach.

Adam Yassaman, formerly the freshman boys coach at the school, will take over the girls head coaching position on an interim basis, the statement read.

"Change and transition are always difficult, however, we are confident in our decision and believe that the experience both coaches bring to our soccer program will not only help our players build confidence, fundamentals and increased skill sets, but will enable our soccer team to be more solid and successful," Hoffman said in the statement.

Martinez spent the last two seasons as head coach of the girls team while Arana took over as boys head coach last year. Prior to that, Arana has spent the previous three seasons as Hart's varsity boys soccer head coach.

The Golden Valley girls program is set to kick off Nov. 27 against Simi Valley High, while the boys start on Nov. 29 against Notre Dame Academy.
