After winning its second consecutive Western State Conference, South Division title, the College of the Canyons women’s soccer team was rewarded with the No. 2 seed California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Southern Regional Playoffs.

COC will face the winners of No. 15 East Los Angeles and No. 18 Long Beach City College in the first round on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.

“We’re excited to be able to host all the way through the playoffs as long as we keep playing,” said COC head coach Justin Lundin. “That was a our No. 1 goal was to be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.”

East L.A. and Long Beach will kick things off in a play-in game on Thursday at 6 p.m.

“At this point in the year when you get down to playoffs, no matter who you play, you’re going to have to be on your ‘A’ game,” Lundin said. “We’re ready for whoever we get. In terms of having a preference, we don’t really care. We just need to focus on what we need to do and be disciplined and I think we’ll be good.”

According to the school, the postseason appearance is the seventh in program history, which began in 1998.

If the Cougars can get through their first-round contest, they’ll face the winner of No. 7 seeded Ventura College and No. 10 seeded Citrus College on Nov. 20.

The championship games will be held at Mt. San Antonio College from Nov. 30 and Dec. 2.

“We’re definitely heavy on the sophomore side this year, so all our players have had the opportunity ... to win two championships and this will be their third playoff game and I feel they’re ready for it,” Lundin said. “We waited the entire season for this moment.”
