The body of a Valencia woman was found Tuesday morning after she died of an apparent drug overdose, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials confirmed.

At 9:19 a.m., deputies were called to the Arbor Park condominium complex on McBean Parkway near Arroyo Park Drive, located next to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, said Lt. Tom Bryski.

“We got the call of a person dead, apparently of an overdose,” he said. “Homicide (Bureau) detectives are investigating.”

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics were initially dispatched for reports of a woman not breathing.

The 38-year-old woman died from apparent overdose of prescription opiate-based pills, said Investigator Bob Wachsmuth, who heads the Juvenile Intervention Team at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It appears to be an opiate,” he said, adding it was not heroin and not Oxycontin.

If detectives learn the drugs were dispensed to the woman illegally, then criminal charges would be recommended if the person who sold or gave her the drugs could be identified, he said.

“We attempt to identify the person who gave her the drugs but right now we don’t know if these drugs were legal or illegal,” Wachsmuth said.

The woman’s name was not released. Ed Winter, assistant captain for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department, said he was still trying to reach the woman’s next of kin Tuesday afternoon.
