Officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are responding to a report of a hunter lost in the Frenchman’s Flats area north of Castaic Lake, according to Lt. Tom Bryski.
Bryski said the man had called police on his cellphone around 4:18 p.m. saying he had gotten lost on the trail. Search and rescue personnel were dispatched to look for the man around 5 p.m.
As of 5:50 p.m., Bryski said the man had called again and said he thought he could make his way to the freeway. Sheriff’s officials have yet to make contact with him as of yet.
Bryski said the man is maintaining fairly regular contact using his cellphone and had last called around 6:10 p.m.
Preliminary reports around 6:30 p.m. indicated the man had fallen into a ridge and was requesting a helicopter evacuation.
