Local detectives have arrested the “split tongue” bandit who allegedly ripped a demonstration iPhone from its mooring inside a Verizon location last month, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Early Saturday morning, detectives with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested 25-year-old parolee Thomas Nichols, of Canyon Country, said Deputy Joshua Dubin.

“Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station remained diligent in this investigation, and an arrest was made late last night,” he said. “At this time no further information is being released, as there are possible other charges pending in this matter”

Dubin said detectives formulated enough probable cause to arrest Nichols in connection with a commercial burglary that occurred a Verizon store in Stevenson Ranch.

On Oct. 21, a man stole an Apple iPhone 5 from the Verizon location on The Old Road south of McBean Parkway, a spokesman said.

Store witnesses including two employees provided a detailed description of the thief including details of face and neck tattoos, a tattoo on his right thigh, ear gauges and a split tongue.

According to Dubin, Nichols also had an outstanding “no bail” warrant for his arrest regarding a violation of his parole.

He was additionally charged with this warrant.

Nichols is being held without bail at the local sheriff’s jail and is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court on Wednesday.
