Three years in existence.

Now two semifinal appearances.

Things keep getting better for Trinity Classical Academy as the Knights defeated Cornerstone Christian 58-18 in Wildomar on Friday in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs.

“We’re very, very ecstatic,” said Trinity head coach Mike Buchanan. “The boys believe. They’re not going in there thinking, ‘What are we doing here?’”

Knights senior quarterback Dakota Prochnow was 9-of-13 for 177 yards with three touchdown passes and carried the ball seven times for 76 yards.

On defense, he intercepted a pass and took it back 75 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

He exited the game with an ankle injury in the third, but Buchanan said he’ll be fine for next week.

The game was close in the first quarter, with Trinity holding a 16-12 lead.

But the Knights extended that first-quarter advantage into a 44-12 lead by halftime thanks to a 45-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Durst, a 43-yard score then a 12-yard score to Ryan Brooks and the Prochnow interception.

Trinity added two more touchdowns in the third quarter before the game went to a running clock in the scoreless fourth.
Patch Kulp had 12 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown and Spencer Klehn ran the ball six times for 66 yards with two scores.

Now the Heritage League champions play today’s winner of the Joshua Springs-Valley Christian Academy game in the semifinals next Friday.

The Knights get a home game if No. 1 seeded Joshua Springs wins and will travel to Santa Maria if Valley Christian wins.
