I would like to take issue with what you have been doing to the Letters to the Editor section of your paper lately.
For example, on Nov. 2 that section had a letter from Jeff Solomon. It was, as was clearly announced up front, a paid candidate endorsement letter.
I am not taking a stand for or against anything in Mr. Solomon’s letter. What concerns me is where it appears.
This is not, I repeat, not a letter to the editor; it is a paid advertisement and belongs somewhere else on your pages.
As a long-time reader, and sometimes a contributor, I object to the commercialization of The Signal’s Opinion section.
To your credit, it was clearly announced as a paid endorsement letter. Nevertheless, it doesn’t belong in the Letters to the Editor section.
If Wal-mart wanted to promote a particular item, would you accept a piece from them and put it in this section?
Of course not. A political piece is no different.
