The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion Wednesday to ask cities to follow a county ordinance that exempts military veterans from paying metered parking fees.

That exemption covers vehicles with certain veteran-specific license plates such as those that designate the driver as a Pearl Harbor survivor, former American Prisoner of War, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Purple Heart recipient or a recipient of other, military branch-specific honors.
