A fire early today at a multiple-family condominium building in Saugus is suspected of being deliberately set, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to a two-story building fire in the 28000 block of Seco Canyon Road near Copper Hill Drive, said Supervisor Eddie Pickett.
“It’s a suspected arson. Our own arson investigators notified arson investigators with the Los Angeles County sheriff’s unit,” said another department spokesman who asked not to be named.
No one was hurt in the blaze, which gutted one unit in the building.
“An occupant of the apartment left the scene prior to the Fire Department arriving,” said the spokesman.
“Our firefighter department was successful in keeping the fire contained to the unit involved,” he said.
The other four condos in the building were not affected.
Damage is estimated at $260,000 — $200,000 for the structure and $60,000 for its contents, he said.
The fire was knocked down at 2:24 a.m. and no injuries were reported in the incident, said Lt. John Rush of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
