On behalf of the 2012 Rubber Ducky Festival committee, along with the doctors and staff of Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, I extend sincere thanks to all who participated in the 10th annual Rubber Ducky Festival held Oct. 27 at Bridgeport Park.

Special thanks to our hometown Olympians returning from the 2012 London Olympic Games for participating in our Olympic Athlete Ceremony. Track and field superstars Alysia Montano and silver medalist Lashinda Demus joined us, as did Rick Smith, father of David Smith (men’s volleyball) who is currently competing in France.

Appreciation also goes to Ed “Papa Duck” Bolden, honorary Chairman and Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, celebrity guest Sandra Mitchell, co-masters of ceremonies Bob Kellar and Janice Murray, and Don Biggs and the Glendale Kiwanis for generous use of their race track.

I would also like to thank our spirited sales teams and welcome two new company partners — Newhall County Water District and Southern California Edison.

Boston Scientific, whose mission is to develop transformational health-care products such as the locally manufactured implantable spinal cord stimulators to aid in the management of chronic pain, was pleased to again be the main sponsor of the Rubber Ducky Festival.

The mission of our two organizations is perfectly aligned. Our goal was to help raise funds that allow Samuel Dixon to continue to provide health care services to anyone in need through their community health centers and outreach programs.

With the generous support of residents, sponsors, partners and exhibitors, we were able to raise more than $92,000 to provide patient care in the Santa Clarita Valley.

In addition, Laura Gallardo with Kaiser Permanente presented Samuel Dixon with a $90,000 grant for continued support of community health.

Until next year, be ready to say “yes” to the duck when our iconic mascot waddles into town again. Your support helps ensure friends and neighbors throughout the community have access to quality health care.
