Highway workers injured in collision at Sand Canyon

Two highway workers were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries early Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while working in the area of Sand Canyon Road, officials confirmed.

“It was an injury collision,” said Officer Bruce Turnn of the California Highway Patrol.

About 3 a.m., workers contracted by California’s Department of Transportation to perform “deck work,” mending cracks on the Highway 14 overpass at Sand Canyon were hurt, said Caltrans spokeswoman Kelly Markham.

The workers were employees of Peterson Chase contractors, based in Irvine. she said.

“We don’t know all the details,” said a Peterson Chase spokeswoman who identified herself as Katarina.

“They were sent to hospital,” she said.
