West Ranch senior Haley Hineman was accepted to Princeton University and will play softball there beginning in 2013-14.

West Ranch senior softball player Haley Hineman has yet to play her final season at the Stevenson Ranch campus, but that doesn’t mean she can’t start thinking about the future.

Hineman was accepted into Princeton University on Oct. 19 and will play for the Tigers in 2013-14.

During her junior year, Hineman batted .361 with 16 RBIs and four home runs for the Foothill League champion Wildcats and was named First Team All Foothill League, all while carrying a 4.3 GPA.

This year, her head coach expects even more.

“I expect big things from Haley this year,” said West Ranch head coach Bob Shults. “I expect her to take a huge leadership role this year. We have a lot of younger players, and I want her to mentor some of the other kids. I expect big things for her this year.”

In addition, she has excelled in the classroom.

“She’s a great student first. She’s very academic and she works hard in the classroom and softball has allowed her a chance to get into a prestigious school like Princeton,” Shults said.
