Power has been restored to most of the 1,100 homes in Canyon Country that were left without power after an equipment failure.

Southern California Edison spokeswoman Anna Frutos-Sanchez said the outage occurred at 6:30 p.m. Sunday when an underground transformer blew.

The blackout affected 1,148 customers in Canyon Country around Whites Canyon. As of 8:40 p.m., the lights were back on at all but 82 homes.

Frutos-Sanchez says she does not have an estimate when electricity will return to those homes.
