Drunken driving is suspected in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 Sunday morning near Calgrove Boulevard, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
“It’s a suspected DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), and a female is in custody,” the officer said.
About 5:38 a.m., a sedan traveling in the northbound lanes of the freeway clipped the back of a semi truck near Calgrove, then flipped, the CHP reported.
At least five vehicles, including a big rig, were involved in the crash, said Inspector Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
One person, believed to be a woman, was injured in the pileup.
“Paramedics were dispatched at 5:39 for a person trapped,” Marrujo said. “Several vehicles were involved.”
For at least an hour, traffic was diverted off the freeway and onto Lyons Avenue, the CHP officer said.
