In his final regular season home game as a Canyon Cowboy Drew Wolitarsky scored three touchdowns as the Cowboys beat the West Ranch Wildcats 41-34 on senior night Friday at Harry Welch Stadium.

Wolitarsky scored his first touchdown with 4:50 to play in the first quarter with an 84-yard kickoff return to give Canyon a 13-7 lead.

Later in the half, quarterback Cade Aspay connected with Wolitarsky for a 21-yard score to extend the lead to 20-7.

But West Ranch (2-7 overall, 1-3 Foothill League) answered with a 35-yard touchdown run by Mark Collins to cut the deficit to 20-14 with 6:48 left in the second quarter.

With 11 seconds left in the half, Apsay added a 9-yard touchdown pass to Zach Cuha to give Canyon a 27-14 lead at halftime.

The touchdown was the second from Apsay to Cuha in the half.

On the second play from scrimmage in the second half, Collins broke another 35-yard touchdown run to make the score 27-21.

Collins finished the game with 16 rushes for 168 yards and two scores.

The touchdown run and good field position was set up by a 42-yard kickoff return by Christian Parrish to open the half.

However, Apsay and Wolitarsky responded with a 7-yard touchdown connection on the following Canyon (6-2-1, 3-1) possession.

The touchdown catch was Wolitarsky’s 49th of his career, putting him in second place on California’s list of all-time leaders in receiving touchdowns.

The senior pass catcher trails Cathedral High’s Earvin Johnson’s mark of 66 career touchdown receptions.

Wolitarsky finished the night with eight catches for 124 yards, while Apsay went 16-for-26 for 244 yards and four touchdowns.

The junior quarterback also added an 11-yard rushing touchdown with 11:53 left in the fourth quarter to make the score 41-28 and put the game out of reach.

Apsay has scored at least one rushing touchdown in every game so far and now has 12 total on the season.
He has also thrown four touchdown passes in eight straight games.

Cuha finished with four catches for 70 yards.

Canyon will play its regular season finale Friday at Hart, while West Ranch will wrap up its Foothill League schedule at home against Saugus.
