Local sheriff’s deputies are looking for a thief described as having neck tattoos, ear gauges and a split tongue for stealing a demonstration cellphone, after having sliced the cable that anchored it to the counter of a phone service business Sunday morning, a spokesman said.

Shortly before noon Sunday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a report of a man having stolen an Apple iPhone 5 from the Verizon location on The Old Road, south of McBean Parkway, a spokesman said.

“We haven’t caught him, and we’re still looking for him,” said Lt. Tom Bryski five hours after the incident.

The suspect is described as having facial tattoos including the tattoo of a skull on his Adam’s apple.

“If you look at him, you couldn’t forget him,” said an employee of the store who would gave his name only as Dennis.

“The ear gauges he had were huge,” he said.

Deputies who scoured the streets of Stevenson Ranch looking for the suspect, were given a description of a male white 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with neck tattoos and a cosmetically altered “split tongue.”

The suspect reportedly left car keys in the store before he ran out, Dennis said.

“We tried chasing him,” he said.

From store witnesses including one customer, the suspect cut the security cord holding the demonstration cellphone and “then yanked it so hard it broke,” Dennis said.
