Letter: Use your eyes when voting

I have watched both debates, presidential and vice presidential, and I am confused.

The president and vice president say we are better off today than we were four years ago, but that is not what my eyes are telling me.

As I drive through our community I see “For Lease” signs on a great number of commercial properties. I don’t know what the vacancy factor is in the industrial complexes, but in the retail spaces there are many more vacant stores and restaurants than there were four years ago.

The small stores and independent restaurants are really heartbreaking because you know that the dreams of someone died when the sign went up in the window.

Creekside Road looks a little under-populated to me, and that is not a good sign to me because our community once advertised that car dealerships were a significant source of our tax revenue.

Look around your own neighborhood and see how well your neighbors have fared in the past few years.

How many have given up one of their vehicles and how many adult children are living at home after graduating from college or being laid off?

Take a good look around before you vote; decide if you want to continue the slide or do you want to turn things around.
