Jan. 24

Feb. 13
Be transported to a "Romantic Evening in Paris" at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Sweetheart Gala from 6 p.m. to midnight in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Valencia. The 2009 sweetheart couple is Dale and Tamara Donohoe. The evening includes dinner and dancing with "Crush," an eight-piece band performing everything from Motown to Madonna. Welcome Mayor Frank Ferry at IHOP

Health and Wellness screenings
Blood pressure: Provided by registered nurses, free blood pressure checks are administered every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in Activity Room 3 (site of Adult Day Care Center).
Hearing: Randall Bartlett of Audiology Services of Newhall will provide free hearing checks on Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Adult Day Care office.
Feet: Podiatrist Dr. Shane D. Rhodes of Canyon Foot Care will provide free foot screenings on Jan. 22 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Day Care office.
Blood sugar: Registered Dietitian Lori Robinson will provide free glucose sugar checks on Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Adult Day Care office.

Community hiking club
Jan. 17 - Sierra Pelona - Moderate 6 mile hike with a 1,200 foot gain. Meet outside Towsley Canyon gate at 8:15 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead at 8:30 a.m.
Jan. 24 - Mt. Lowe to the Hotel Ruins - 6 mile round trip. Meet at Towsley Canyon at 8 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead in La Canada at 8:15 a.m.
Jan. 31 - Whitney Canyon to the Waterfalls - 5 1/2 mile round trip hike. Meet at the Park and Ride at the end of San Fernando Road at 8:15 a.m. Hike begins at 8:30 a.m.

Sierra Pelona Rock Club meeting
The Sierra Pelona Rock Club will meet Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenbrier Mobile Estates East, 21301 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country. Members will learn rock and mineral identification, followed by a hands-on workshop experience. Skate excursions to Simi Valley
The city of Santa Clarita offers excursion to Skate Lab in Simi Valley on Jan. 24 and Feb. 7. Skaters wishing to attend must bring a helmet, valid I.D. and city registration form provided at www.santa-clarita.com/seasons. Guests ages 10 to 17 should bring a notarized SkateLab waiver, available at www.skatelab.com.
