More than 80 Democrats living in the Santa Clarita, northern San Fernando and eastern Simi Valleys met on Saturday to elect 12 delegates for the California Democratic Party's Convention, which will be held April 24 through 26 in Sacramento.

The California Democratic Party convened delegate election meetings in each of the state's 80 Assembly Districts over the weekend. These 12 people will represent the 38th Assembly District for the 2009 and 2010 State Conventions. Additionally, they elected one person to represent the district on the State Party's Executive Board.

The six men chosen to represent the 38th Assembly District include Chad Jones (Executive Board Representative), Granada Hills; Steve Tannehill, Valencia; Bob Levine, Stevenson Ranch; Mike Cruz, Newhall; Michael Ballard, Newhall; and Charles Igwe, Granada Hills.

The six women include Marcia Schenider, Northridge; Barbara Wilson, Newhall; Andrea Lomax, Sylmar; Lynne Plambeck, Newhall; Kristin Ingram-Worthman, Canyon Country; and Rosalind Scarbrough, Granada Hills.

"We have a wonderful new groups of delegates, many of whom are coming to politics for the first time because of the Obama campaign," said Carole Lutness, local political activist who chaired the event. "They realize that politics doesn't end with the presidential election. We have a lot of work to do to actualize Obama's vision for restoring our country economically and environmentally."
