Three people were taken to the hospital from the scene of a crash Monday on the southbound Interstate 5 north of Interstate 210, and rush-hour traffic was backed up for hours into the Santa Clarita Valley.

Lanes were closed for more than two hours following the crash around 5 p.m., but all lanes were reopened by 7:05 p.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash occurred north of the 210 but south of Balboa Boulevard, a witness said. CHP officers were still on the scene investigating an hour later.

The vehicle, a minivan, crashed into a wall alongside the freeway, the witness said. At least one of the vehicle’s occupants was trapped inside the minivan, which rolled onto its side, before Fire Department officials and paramedics arrived to free the individual.

The car’s three occupants were sent to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. At least one occupant was believed to be seriously injured.
