The city's park and recreation department organizes youth basketball leagues with 154 teams and 1,450 children between 5 and 15 years old, said recreation supervisor Rich Carr.

The kids play games at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex and at local schools.

"We want kids to learn and have fun and make friends," Carr said. "We want to keep them in a positive program, keep them in shape and keep them active."
