Letter: Proposed changes would stifle communication

Thank you for the informative recent editorial “Proposed city rule changes are a bad idea,” (Oct. 9, 2012) discussing proposed city changes in procedures as it relates to accessibility of information to the public, elected members of the Santa Clarita City Council and city staff.

While no doubt the city manager must have rules governing how and when his staff members may interact with the media, the same rules should not apply to elected members of the council.

I don’t believe it to be in the best interest of our city to place so much power in a non-elected city manager.

I want the media to be vigilant in its role as community watchdog and not just a press release distributor, and I want any City Council person to be free to express his or her opinion that may be different from that of the group.
