Art on display at Art Classic XXIII

Now that’s what I’m talking about! The rain was a beautiful thing to behold this past Thursday and Friday. Hard to believe that the weather report is calling for 90 degree temperatures today and tomorrow. Bring back winter!

Art Classic XXIII

The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association will host the 23rd annual Art Classic 2-5 p.m. Saturday, at Hart Hall at William S. Hart Park in Newhall. A free public viewing will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct 21.

“The annual Art Classic Gala is our major fundraiser for the year,” said Art Classic co-chairwoman and Artists’ Association president, Laurie Morgan. “Many of our nearly 200 artists will enter this professionally-judged competition and exhibit. This event supports our student scholarship program and enables us to provide free art demonstrations at our monthly membership meetings as part of our ongoing community art education and enrichment objectives.” Tickets for the Classic afternoon party are only $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Judges for Art Classic

Art Classic XXIII will feature a trio of professional artists who will serve as judges of the art competition. The judges include Impressionist artist Lynn Gertenbach, who has been painting for 40 years; Madeleine Avirov, a painter, writer and editor and educator, author and artist Art Sherwyn. Avirov has published illustrations in national and local periodicals, and completed a series of drawings commissioned by the Field Museum in Chicago. Sherwyn is the author of two art workbooks, “Creative Coloring” and “The Drawing Workbook — The Line,” published by Davis Publications.

Jimmy Carnelli

Entertainer Jimmy Carnelli has been performing all around the SCV recently at one fundraiser after another. He’s appeared recently at the Circle of Hope Vine 2 Wine event, the Afternoon Tea and on Saturday will perform at the Art Classic XXIII. Carnelli captures the distinctive tone and style of great crooners, such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole. His experience covers a broad range of live performance, studio recording, composition and musical direction. He was the drummer for legendary pianist Roger Williams where he played live with Roger’s traditional sextet.

Visit Kid Expo today

Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center presents the ninth annual Kid Expo today, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Golden Valley High School, 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway, Santa Clarita (cross street Golden Valley Road between Sierra Highway and Centre Pointe Parkway). The event will feature more than 100 exhibits of local businesses offering products or services for children. Admission is $3 for adults, children are free. Senses on Main Street

The monthly Senses on Main Street in downtown Newhall will feature a Halloween theme on Thursday. The free event runs 7-11 p.m. Be your spoooookiest, dress up in a costume or come as you are enjoy the food, music, dancing, exhibits. It’s a great place to people watch!
