Scammers posing as fire inspectors

Fire Department warns business owners to beware

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is warning businesses to be on the lookout for scam artists posing as official fire inspectors.

Fire Department officials say businesses have been targeted by people dressing and posing as inspectors to later charge the business for fraudulent inspections or unnecessary services.

The Fire Department does not charge for annual fire safety inspections.

To prevent potential fraudulent billings, business owners or workers should ask any and all inspectors to produce a copy of their city or county business licenses.

All licenses issued by the city or county can be checked with the Contractors State License Board.

Businesses are also advised to request invoices related to all inspections or services and to never pay for any services in cash.

If a business owner has any doubts or suspicions related to an inspection, he or she is encouraged to contact the

Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Public Affairs Section at 323-881-2411.
