Saugus football picked up a win Friday when it was found that Taft High used an ineligible player in its 48-20 victory over the Centurions on Sept. 21.
This is the second time the Centurions have benefited from a forfeit in as many seasons.
Saugus originally lost 51-28 to Canyon on Oct. 14, 2011, but because the Cowboys used an ineligible player in the game, the Centurions were given the win.
That victory gave Saugus a share of the Foothill League title because the Cents ended up with a 4-1 Foothill League record, the same record as Valencia. Yet Saugus head coach Jason Bornn said the team doesn’t consider it a league title because it lost to the Vikings in the league finale and because Canyon made an honest mistake.
Saugus plays Canyon tonight at College of the Canyons at 7:30 p.m. and now goes in with a 2-4 overall record instead of 1-5.
