Last year's winner and third-grade teacher Tim McMenamin from Stevenson Ranch Elementary received a $200 classroom grant.

Students from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley are invited to submit their entries for the “Gotta Regatta!” creative essay writing and poster contest, which will be judged during the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc.’s (SDFHC) 10th annual Rubber Ducky Festival.

The teachers of participating students will be entered into a random drawing in which one teacher will be selected to receive a $200 classroom grant.

One winner from each participating school will be selected, and winning entries will be displayed at the Festival, on Oct. 27 at Bridgeport Park on Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s grand prize is a $2,500 gift certificate for Southwest Airlines travel; several other prizes will be available on the day of the race.

Rubber ducks are available for adoption at $5 per duck, making the event affordable for everyone. Other adoption opportunities include: Quack Family (five ducks plus one free duck for $25); Quacker’s Dozen (10 ducks plus two free ducks for $50) and Duck Flock (20 ducks plus four free ducks for $100).

Visit  www.duckrace.com/scv for more information on duck adoptions.
