Hello, Santa Clarita Valley! Welcome to The-Signal.com's Daybreak, your point of entry for the day, and a quick journey through the past, present and future. Let the adventure begin:

First Word
"I can see no reason to deal with people who cannot tell the difference between Colonel Sanders and Adolph Eichmann."
-- Greg Moses, president of GM Management (click here to read the letter)

Today's Highlight in History: On Jan. 11, 1908, the Grand Canyon National Monument was created with a proclamation by President Theodore Roosevelt (it became a national park in 1919).

Five years ago: Democrat Howard Dean defended his record on race in the last debate before the Iowa caucuses, as he was forced to acknowledge that no blacks or Hispanic had served in his cabinet during his 12 years as governor of Vermont.

Watercooler Talk
ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada (AP) - Bikini- and Speedo-clad tourists beware.

The Caribbean island of Grenada says it recently began enforcing an indecent exposure law banning bathing suits away from the beach, as well as saggy pants that reveal the underwear.

Police commissioner James Clarkson says violators are usually just ordered to cover up. But the law allows for a $270 fine or six months in jail.

At least a few locals are contesting fines. Clarkson said Friday that cruise ships usually inform passengers of proper non-beach attire, but "from time to time, there is the one or two who take their chances."
