Take a deep breath, October is here

I had a wonderful trip to England and Scotland. We had amazing weather and saw so many fabulous sights. The food was much better than I expected! However, I am very happy to be back in the Santa Clarita Valley, triple-digit temperatures and all! I am very pleased that winter is on its way. Perhaps we can have some “pleasant” (cooler) weather here, too!

October is a busy month

Wow! Can we schedule a few more events in October, please? Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a crowded social calendar! Here’s just a few of the many upcoming events that deserve your attention.

Walk for a cure

On Saturday morning you can Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes at Mann Biomedical Park and in the evening you can Light the Night at Bridgeport Park for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual walk. To register for the Step Out walk, or learn more, visit www.diabetes.org/valencia or call or email Lori Blumenthal at 661-295-0081 or lblumenthal@diabetes.org. To Light the Night Contact Margaux Badalato for details: 310-846-4731 or margaux.badalato@lls.org.

SCV Community Expo

Between Stepping Out and Lighting the Night next Saturday will also offer the SCV Community Expo in downtown Newhall. This will be the 28th annual expo put on by the SCV Chamber of Commerce. This family-friendly event is free and is the ultimate meet and greet for all things SCV and the chance for residents to connect with local businesses. The event runs noon to 9 p.m. on Main Street. Contact: info@scvchamber.com or 661-702-6977.

Also on Saturday

Have I mentioned the Master Chorale’s Cabaret and Cabernet event, yet? Or the Bill Hart District of Boy Scouts of America Leaders of Character Dinner?

Sunday, Oct. 14

Well, that covers next Saturday … let me tell you about Oct. 14, a week from today … Bow-wows and Meows … Child & Family Center’s Kid Expo, LARC Ranch’s annual fundraiser… Yikes! I’m out of room and I’ve not even covered the entire weekend, much less the rest of the month! Stay tuned. For more information on community events see today’s Lifestyle section page C2.

Heritage Haunt

I must mention the Heritage Haunt presented by the SCV Historical Society. This is always a first class, fun event! Please attend and support the great work done by an amazing team of volunteers.
