The average price of regular, unleaded gasoline shot up 17 cents a gallon overnight and now stands at an average $4.48 a gallon statewide.

But Los Angeles County’s average price is higher, coming in at $4.53 a gallon. This is just nine cents below the highest-ever average price, which was recorded in June 2008.

The latest price increases continue a week-long trend that has seen the price of regular, unleaded gasoline increase by about 35 cents a gallon, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

GasBuddy.com shows the increases as even larger. The online service says gas in and around Los Angeles now costs an average of $4.60 a gallon, a 46-cent increase over a week ago. The national average price stands at $3.79 a gallon.

In the Santa Clarita Valley, several stations were offering regular unleaded at $4.69 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com. Click on http://www.the-signal.com/gasprices/ for prices at local stations.
