The singers of the Santa Clarita Master Chorale are staging an evening of Cabaret and Cabernet to be held Saturday, Oct. 13. The event will begin at 6 p.m.  The theme of this year’s annual fundraiser is “The Great American Songbook.”

Chorale member David Ewart said this year’s event will be held at a spacious private home in Valencia.

“The band is live and individual chorale members will shine as solo performers, singing the music of the Gershwins and Cole Porter, plus standards from Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald,” he said.

A Highlight of the evening will be “It Had To Be You,” written by Isham Jones and Gus Kahn in 1924. This tune has been covered by everyone from Dorothy Lamour in 1940 to Elliot Yamin on the fifth season of “American Idol.”

Chorale member Andrew Heath, a student at California State University, Northridge, will be singing this favorite.

A Frank Loesser classic, “Fugue for Tinhorns,” is also on the bill. John Fairbanks, Dean Smith and Brad Thurlow will perform.

Mezzo Cara Kowalczyk will take you “Over the Rainbow,” and soprano Leslie Garman will be serving up that sensual celebration, “At Last,” the Mack Gordon and Harry Warren number from 1941 that became an Etta James theme song.

Artistic director Allan Petker will hit the boards, dueling it out with alto Linda Bonar in “Anything You Can Do,” the Irving Berlin favorite from “Annie Get Your Gun.”

A silent auction starts the evening with appetizers and no-host bar, followed by light fare and dessert.

A raffle for a dream vacation will also be held. You can win a week at a Hawaiian hideaway or a seven-day cruise to your choice of the Caribbean or the Mexican Riviera.

Tickets for the raffle are $25 each or five for $100 and the winner need not be present.

Table sponsorships starting at $500 and include a program ad for your company.

A limited number of tables for two are available at $250. Individual tickets are $100.
