Sarah Kahn of the local Santa Clarita Toastmasters Club was named one of the top 30 speakers in the “Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking” event held in Orlando, Fla. in August, the organization announced Wednesday.

In spite of very tough competition, Daybreak Santa Clarita Toastmasters member Kahn took third place in the semifinals of the world’s largest speech contest. She surpassed fierce competition to win with her speech, “Narrowing the Confidence Gap”.

Telling her personal story about overcoming social anxiety with passion, courage and confidence, Kahn says, enabled her to connect with the audience. The five- to seven-minute speech was judged on content, organization and style.

Kahn, a wife, mother and former fashion designer, said she joined Toastmasters a year ago because she wanted to perfect her communication and connection skills.

“Toastmasters provided me a safe, friendly and encouraging environment where I learned to face fears and phobias as I continue to grow and build self-confidence,” she said.
