There were some tense moments on Interstate 5 near Gorman Sunday when an older model van flipped over, county fire officials reported.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., a van flipped on its passenger side near Quail Lake Road, said Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Initially, fire officials called for a helicopter to airlift passengers to the hospital, but officers of the California Highway Patrol reported three occupants out of the vehicle and as having suffered only minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, CHP reported.

The overturned van blocked the No. 3 lane and slowed traffic along the freeway for almost half an hour until tow trucks removed it from the roadway.
