The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care & Control is having a party today, and anyone looking for a new furry friend is invited, county officials said.
In celebration of the department’s 75th anniversary, all six department centers, including those in Agoura, Castaic and Lancaster, will hold adoption drives today discounting all adoptions to $19.37. That dollar amount pays homage to 1937, the year the department was originally founded.
“The department has evolved into a critical service provider since its inception in 1937,” said Marcia Mayeda, the director of the department, in a release. “We’ve gone from rabies control to a modern-day, full-service animal care and control agency,”
The Laker Girls will also be marking the occasion with visits to the Carson and Downey branches of the department from noon to 1:30 p.m.
