Two adults and three youths were in custody in the Northern California town of Placer on Thursday, charged in connection with a string of robberies throughout the state including an armed robbery in Stevenson Ranch this month, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

A 26-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were arrested Wednesday for multiple robberies, including one at the Comfort Suites hotel, said Sgt. Kevin Blake of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The juveniles charged include one 15-year-old and two 14-year-olds.

“Two of our detectives went up to Placer (north of Sacramento) yesterday and interviewed the suspects about the robbery,” Blake said Thursday.

Three masked individuals held up the Comfort Suites on The Old Road on Sept. 3 and demanded money at gunpoint, Blake said.

No shots were fired and no one was hurt, deputies confirmed at the time.

“The robbers used a gun in the robbery. They were masked and demanded money of the clerk at gunpoint,” Blake said.

“They fled in a mid-sized vehicle.”

Local detectives tracked that vehicle and followed through with their investigation until the arrests were made Wednesday.

Initial reports suggested the three robbers were two men and a boy. However, investigators scrutinizing surveillance footage captured by hotel security determined the shorter suspect could be someone other than a boy.

The robbers, at least two of them armed with handguns, stole more than $350 in cash and a jar of candy.

Two days after the robbery in Stevenson Ranch, five armed robbers held up two Placer County businesses, injuring one clerk, before being arrested as they fled westbound on Interstate 80. Three of those arrested were juveniles.

The arrests came following a Sept. 5 armed robberies of a gas station in Placer and a Sept. 6 armed robbery of a hotel in Auburn. A clerk at the gas station was injured when the robbers demanded he open the cash register, then emptied the drawer and threw it at the clerk’s head.

Arrested following a police pursuit were Jamaul Lee Baker, 26, and Justina Irene Baker, 22, and three juveniles.
Police recovered money, guns, and masks from their car.

Both Bakers were booked at the Placer County Jail on charges of armed robbery, conspiracy and child endangerment.

The juveniles were booked on charges of robbery and conspiracy at Placer County Juvenile Hall in Auburn.

Placer deputies contacted deputies in other jurisdictions, including the Santa Clarita Valley, to see if the suspects were responsible for other robberies.
