The Santa Clarita City Council authorized multiway stop controls at a Newhall intersection near three schools: Newhall Elementary, Placerita Junior High and William S. Hart High School.

Staff analysis of the proposed stop at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and 14th Street found that such controls should enhance pedestrian safety in the area, particularly during high-traffic times at the beginning and end of the school day.

The controls approved Tuesday night will cost an estimated $1,000.
