Saturday, Sept. 29

Grand opening of the new Old Town Newhall Library, hosted by the City of Santa Clarita. City Council to begin festivities with ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Accompanying street fair booths will host authors, games, activities, music, and food trucks. New 30,000 foot library boasts 135,000 publications, 68 public computers, private study spaces, and meeting rooms.

Saturday, Oct. 6

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hosts its annual Fun in the Sun Chili Cook-off with games, food and live music 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Jack Bones Equestrian Center, 26983 Tapia Canyon Road, Castaic. Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley hosts the ninth annual fundraiser: “Bras for a Cause 2012 – Salutes Our Hometown Heroes” 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Oaks Grille, at the Tournament Players Club, 26550 Heritage View Lane, Valencia. This year, more than 1,200 area residents will come together to be part of the Stop Diabetes movement at the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. This year’s event will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Mann Biomedical Park, 25141 Rye Canyon Loop, Valencia. The one-day signature fundraising walk benefits the American Diabetes Association. Every dollar raised through Step Out plays an important role in supporting the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. “Sip, Stroll and Savor the Sounds” at the Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley’s fifth annual The Wine Affair. ‘Pride in the Lake Day’ at Castaic Lake

The Friends of Castaic Lake will hold a “Pride in the Lake Day” the second Saturday of every month (this month Oct. 13). Meet at the boat ramp at the Castaic lagoon at 9 a.m. and pick up trash until 11 a.m., followed by free hot dogs and chips for volunteers. Castaic Lake, 32132 Castaic Lake Drive, Castaic. Groups and school community service students who need hours welcome.
